A little about your Alaskan Adventure Guide in Sitka, AK;
My name is Rafe Hanson, the owner of High Ridge Expeditions. Born and raised in Sitka, Alaska, I’ve spent my whole life on the ocean. If you can’t find me out there, I’ll be photographing the rugged mountains of Baranof Island or fly fishing in the rivers below.

From a young age I’ve navigated these waters. At the age of 10, I started working on the deck of my family’s Dungeness crab boat and went on to do so for the next 10 years. I’ve tried my hand at many other commercial fisheries and now have found myself working as a commercial diver in the off-season from guiding. I’ll save the stories for when you and your party are onboard.

  • Certified SDI Open Water Scuba Diver / Maritime Salvage

  • CPR & First Aid Certified

We love that quote and it really says a lot about who we are as individuals and a business. We strive to not be labeled as just a “wildlife tour,” or just a “charter fishing outfit.” If you’d like to go beach-combing one day, fly fish the next and top it off with free diving in the Pacific Ocean, we can do that. Or, if you you’d like to relax, put your feet up and cruise around Southeast Alaska, we can do that too. We’ve always thought, a “trip of a lifetime” should be left up to the customer and not the business. Contact us with what you’d like to do and we’ll do our best to make it happen. At High Ridge Expeditions, we guarantee a fun, custom and memorable experience you can only get with us. Most of our trips are custom built for our guests.

If you like: sight seeing, fly fishing, free diving, photography, beach-combing, boat cruising and relaxing, then, chances are, we will get along great and we can tailor a custom experience for you that you’ll love.

LET US BE BLUNT FOR A MINUTE: If you are looking for a more “all-inclusive, hands-off experience,” then we probably aren’t what you’re looking for. We take a much more laid-back, but hands-on approach during our expeditions. I act as the Captain, Guide and Photographer and we’ll provide you with transportation, local knowledge, safety and lodging for your trip. You’ll be getting out there, paddling, hiking, backpacking, diving, fishing and whatever else floats your boat. Groceries are included for our multi-day trips, but we aren’t responsible for cooking group meals.
